Ancient Synagogue of Barcelona
The oldest synagogue, not only in Spain but also in Europe, located in downtown Barcelona.
The building, which houses the synagogue building is unique because its foundation was laid during the Roman Empire. Part of the structure and facade attributed to the 13th century. Unfortunately, in its original form is preserved only base facilities. But this fact does not diminish the importance and sanctity of the place.
It is stored in the Great Synagogue Torah scroll, whose age is five years. Torah scroll - the main sacred object in Judaism, representing great value for the Jewish people, as well as for historians and connoisseurs of ancient culture. There is no longer holding services. Sometimes the Jewish community in the synagogue arranges holidays.
Since 2002, the museum is an ancient relic. There are regular guided tours, during which you can learn more about the fate of the Spanish Jews in medieval Barcelona, as well as about how the oldest was found in the history of the synagogue.
Tours are conducted daily. From Monday to Friday from 10.30 to 15.00 and from 16.00 to 18.30 on weekends from 10.30 to 15.00.
