Lanzarote is a Spanish island in Las Palmas province of the Canary Islands. This fantastic place is called the island of the Mountain of Fire due to nearly 300 volcanoes located on its territory. After more than 6 years of a constant eruption of more than few dozens of volcanoes, the third part of the island is covered with ash. The more and more people are attracted by the desert, which looks like another world.
Since recently, the touristic infrastructure has been rapidly developing on Lanzarote Island. Many curious travellers desire to see a real volcano reserve. Salt is mined here, locals run farming and fishing. There is a lack of fertile soils because of thick layer of ash covered the island. Plants and vineyards are grown here in deep pits framed with fragments of lava. Lanzarote multicoloured deserts are often used in fantastic films as natural decorations. An amazing green lagoon of El Golfo can be seen in the film RRRrrrr!!! The island is a protected natural area. Any construction of multi-storey building is prohibited and strict rules are applied to all constructions in the area.
Timanfaya National Park with its symbol – El Diablo statue – is the most popular attraction of the island. Right in the centre of the volcano’s crater, among alien landscapes, there is a restaurant with its dishes cooked on hot lava. But a real gem of the island is Cueva de los Verdes, considered one of the longest volcanic tunnels of the world. Lanzarote also contains monuments of architecture. San Gabriel and San Jose castles are located in the capital of the island, Arrecife city. The museum of César Manrique is worth seeing. Thanks to projects of the famous architect and designer, the tourism on the island is being well developed. There are a lot of scenic corners on the island, but the most beautiful beaches are in Papagayo, located in small gulfs in the south of Lanzarote Island.
